Sherry DeGennaro

As an Encaustic artist, Sherry describes her painting style as “Representational Abstract” - merging organic shapes, colors & textures of the real world to something unquantifiable & emotional. There’s something familiar, yet not. The eyes beg to linger.
Each piece, wrought in encaustic hot wax medium (an unpredictable translucent molten medium) captures a bit of the bend of a river, or a certain section of sky, or a flower halfway to seed, & captures something of the artist or viewer as well.
Occasionally, a simple discarded item or a found object add texture, depth & interest to her artworks. “I frequently begin a painting with no defined direction. Where will it take me in its creation?” Sherry begins her art with nature in mind. Then she expands perception. Her art flows with a luminous process surrendering to wherever brush, heat, wax & pigment take her.
