Robert Miltenberg

ROBERT ALLEN MILTENBERG ARTIST
Miltenberg has worked with presidents and rock stars and
can be carbon-dated back to the early days of the new
wave and punk rock art scenes in New York City and Los
Angeles in the late 70’s and early 80’s. His art has shown
on both coasts in a variety of galleries. Miltenberg’s visual
arts education is principally from The Art Center in
Pasadena, California. His commercial art director skills
were acquired through many years as an executive creative
for a variety of global advertising firms. He witnessed,
studied and learned from Keith Haring creating his original
NYC subway artwork - As He Was Creating It.
His zeitgeist is anchored in the art movements of the late
19th and early 20th centuries, the 1960’s, and the Graffiti
movement of the late 20th century. He paints in a three-
dimensional manner named “Topographical Acrylics.”
Landscaping and sculpting techniques are employed to the
canvas. The human form is rendered to its simplest.
Miltenberg challenges conventional notions of technique,
using irregular lines and textures. He rejects the view that
art must look factory-made. He calls his style “Post
Modern Primitivism” for its primal nature. In his first series:
“It Isn’t What It Is - It’s What It Isn’t.” -the human images
are plain white paint on canvas. Miltenberg paints the
environment that defines his images just as our own
environment shapes and defines us. This image, in turn,
redefines the environment just as we humans redefine
ours. Expressions through this style from drama to satire
are endlessly fun. -And that’s just one of several series and
themes Miltenberg invites you to explore along with him.
