Receiving Day at COCO Gallery Estero
The first week of every month means new artwork at the gallery. Artists replace their previous artwork with new pieces, giving visitors something new to discover each month. There are several tables set up throughout the gallery to help artists navigate the process of submitting their new art and to ensure that each piece is properly documented, properly framed and ready for display.
As an intern, I wanted to capture as much of this process as possible through photographs and videos. I took videos as artists checked in their new artwork, collected their pieces that were displayed the month before and recorded videos of artists organizing and hanging up the new artwork. I had a vision – to create a before and after video of the gallery. I wanted to show what the space looked like before the artwork was changed and how it transformed once the new pieces were installed, including the gallery’s window. This experience taught me how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep a gallery fresh and engaging for visitors and art lovers.
Additionally, to keep up with the gallery’s online presence and showcase the kind of artwork that is available at the gallery, it’s crucial to take high-quality photographs of the artwork. These images introduce visitors and art collectors to new artwork they may not have discovered otherwise.

This has been an exciting opportunity to combine my background in journalism and public relations with my interest in the arts. I love storytelling and this internship has given me a new perspective on how stories can be told through artwork, photography and social media.
