Tuesday, October 6 | 2:00–6:30 PM 4.5-Hour Workshop | Includes a 30-Minute Break Join nationally recognized artist and educator Micah Goguen for a hands-on exploration of how color, texture, and composition work together to build rich and visually interesting surfaces. You don't need to bring anything except your color references and an open mind. Micah will provide pre-prepared textured substrates, collage papers, acrylics, inks, and additional materials to guide your creative exploration. In this workshop, participants will work with up to four different pre-prepared textures, exploring how staining, layering, and color theory can dramatically change the appearance and visual depth of a surface. While you will not be applying gels and pastes in this class, you will discover how color can activate and reveal the effects created by a variety of textures. The objective is to intuitively build depth and interesting surfaces while exploring basic principles of color theory and composition. Your pieces may stand alone as abstract works, or you can explore how to transfer and incorporate representational imagery onto your newly created surfaces. Micah will review selected professional products and demonstrate techniques throughout the workshop, helping participants understand how different materials and creative choices can be applied to their own artistic practice. THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ALL LEVELS No previous art experience is necessary. Whether you are an experienced artist looking for new approaches or a beginner ready to experiment, this workshop is designed to encourage exploration, creative confidence, and discovery. You do not need to attend both workshops. However, they are designed to complement one another for artists who want to deepen their understanding and continue their exploration of texture, materials, color, and layered surfaces.
